Players have become quick fans of the Rip-It defense face guards because of their lightweight and open design. No other softball defense face guard on the market could rival Rip-It in visibility and comfort, at least not until now. Schutt has a new softball fielders face guard that just hit the shelves this summer. The design is very similar to Rip-It, and there are some new features players may find appealing.

As you can see from the picture above, the Schutt softball fielders faceguard looks very similar to the Rip-It, but there are a few features Schutt has thrown in that make it stand on it’s own.
Schutt has encased the protective foam of the forehead band in the same moisture wicking fabric used in their batting and catcher’s helmets. This provides more comfort as you play and helps keep sweat from dripping into your eyes, and personally, as someone who has had sunscreen laced sweat drip in my eyes many a time while playing softball, this is a much appreciated feature. The sweatband is also removable and machine washable.
The chin cup has a hard plastic outer shell for added protection, and like the Rip-It, the head straps have a triangle design to accommodate a girls ponytail. As for sizing, this faceguard is designed to fit both adult and youth players, so there are no worries about which size is needed.
Rip-It’s defense face guard is still one best on the market, but I predict this new Schutt Softball Fielders Faceguard is going to give Rip-It a run for their money.
What do you think? If Rip-It and Schutt were to duke it out in a face guard to face guard fight, who would win? Let us know in the comments!
