fpxt-hLooking for a new fastpitch bat, but can’t decide which one?  The 2010 Louisville Slugger Triton 3X Composite Fastpitch bat may be the one for you.  I had the chance to test this bat out, and came away with some pretty nice things to say about it.  Check it out.

Conditions
This bat was tested at an outdoor batting cage that used yellow, dimpled pitching machine softballs.  The weather conditions were warm and little humid.  A combination of hitting, slapping, and bunting was done while testing the bat.

Appearance
I’m not a fan of the yellow and blue graphics.  The color scheme is a bit too sharp for my taste and wouldn’t be my first choice if I were choosing a bat solely on looks.  That being said, the colors are definitely flashy, a style some Fastpitch players favor.

Weight
The advertised weight of the bat is accurate to within a small fraction of an ounce.  The weight was pretty much evenly distributed in the bat with a little more weight in the handle. This made for a smooth, solid swing.

Feel

The Louisville Slugger Triton had a stiff feel compared to other composite bats from different manufacturers.  The lack of flex, however, made giving direction to my hits easier, and being able to target different parts of the field is one of the big parts of hitting successfully in a game situation.  Though the weight and flex of the bat helped give a smooth and controlled swing, having the weight concentrated a little more in the handle didn’t make for the fastest swing.

Performance
I got in more than a few power hits using this bat.  There was a definite pop to the bat.  I got good distance even on some hits I wasn’t expecting to go anywhere, but only if I hit within the sweet spot.  The sweet spot wasn’t the biggest I’ve seen, but it got the job done.

This bat would work well for someone who wants to get a little more power behind their hits.  Considering that, the extra pop didn’t make for good bunts.  With other bats I’ve used, I could easily lay down a bunt, but with the Triton, the ball would pop off the bat right to where to fielders would be waiting.  Slapping is a different story.  One could easily hit the ball out of range of the infielders using a slip hit.

Overall
The Louisville Slugger Triton 3X Composite is a great bat for someone who is looking for a power hitting bat.  The weight distribution slowed my swing a little, but as long as good technique is used, and the ball is hit within the sweet spot, the ball will go flying.  The stiffness gave a feeling of stability to my swing and also made giving directionality to hits easier.  I don’t recommend using this bat for bunting, but one could get good results using this bat to slap hit.

Rating 4 / 5

Buy this bat: if you are looking for a bat with a consistent swing and a lot of pop.

Maybe not for you: if you prefer a bat with more flex or need a bat suitable for bunting.
