You’ve probably heard the buzz about Spalding’s TF-1000 basketballs, but now there are three types: the original, the ZK Pro, and the new HzO. So you might be asking yourself “Which TF-1000 is right for me?”
Spalding’s TF-1000 product line is home to, by far, some of the best indoor basketballs on the market. Players and even whole leagues swear by them because of their durability and dependability. Here’s some tips to help you choose which Spalding TF-1000 is right for you.
Spalding TF-1000 – The OriginalThe original Spalding TF-1000 basketball is the ball that started it all. As the most popular of all three TF-1000 models, this basketball is great for indoor play and often used for tournaments. Not only does it have a great traditional grip and feel for shooting, passing, and dribbling, but it also lasts for years.
Features:
• ZK Microfiber Composite Cover which gives the look and feel of genuine leather
• Wide channel design
• Excellent durability, and maintains feel and performance for many years.
• Comes in Mens and Womens sizes
• NFHS Approved
If you like a more traditional style basketball with great grip and ease of control, this is the ball for you.
Spalding TF-1000 ZK Pro – Cushion & GripThe Spalding TF-1000 ZK Pro is essentially the same ball as the original TF-1000 but has two main differences. Spalding has added a little cushioning underneath the cover that gives this ball a different, almost softer feel. The channels are also deeper. These changes are designed to give players extra grip. For example, I can easily palm a ZK Pro, but not so much the original or HzO.
Features:
• ZK Microfiber Composite Cover with cushioning underneath.
• Same genuine leather look and feel as the original TF-1000
• Wide and deep channel design
• Comes in Mens and Womens sizes
• NFHS Approved
Deep channel balls are great if you need just a little bit of extra grip, so if you are looking for more grip and control, this is the ball for you. Keep in mind, though, some people aren’t fans of the cushioned cover, and claim it affects the ball’s bounce.
Spalding TF-1000 HzO – Sweaty Palms, No ProblemThe Spalding HzO is the newest basketball in the TF-1000 line. This ball takes the good grip of the other TF-1000 basketballs to a new level by adding moisture management technology to their composite cover. This ball will put sweaty palms in their place.
Features:
• Advanced Moisture Management System worked into the same ZK Microfiber Composite Cover we know and love.
• Wide channel design
• Optimal grip and feel
• Comes in Mens and Womens sizes
• NFHS Approved
If you have problems controlling the ball because of sweaty hands, this is the basketball for you. The moisture management system allows you to play to your fullest and still keep a grip on things.
TF-1000’s are meant for indoor use only, so if you’re looking to play outdoors, a ball designed for multiple playing surfaces, like the Spalding TF-250 would be best. Rubber basketballs are also good for outdoor use.

Best ball of all time, the regular TF-1000! I love mine and refuse to even consider another ball.
