Rawlings, one of the best known names in baseball, scores again with their Renegade line up of gloves. The Basket Web pattern and full grain leather make it a safe bet for baseball and softball.
Appearance:
The Renegade has a nice look off the shelf with soft laces and a nice checkered web. In black and tan it may not be what a traditionalist is looking for, but over all the fit and finish of this glove is excellent. After a few games the leather will start to wear well and won’t make you look like the “new guy” on the field.
Feel:
Brand new, the glove has a great feel and is only a little stiff. The finger stalls are long and comfortable and the Velcro adjustment strap lends it self to players with different sized hands. After only a few games the glove will break in nicely, but almost too nice. The glove lacks in weight and is really light, almost to a fault. I’ve had mine for a few months now and I can’t see it lasting more that a couple of seasons. It gets the job done now comfortably but you may see some errors as it gets more broken in due to the thin leather and floppy feel.
Break-in:
For me break in took just a little back yard catch and one game of softball playing catcher. It performed well and is holding up so far. The laces have loosened up just a bit to give you a great snap response over a ball.
Specs:
12″ Length baseball/softball glove
Overlapping Closed Fastback
Full grain leather
Basket Style Web
Available for both right and left hand throw
Overall: 3.5 out of 5
This is a great glove for the price and felt better than anything else I tried on during my search. After the short break in this is the little engine that could. It wears well and looks great. Its light, nimble and holds the ball well.
