Following the devastating earthquake, tsunami, and now nuclear crisis in Japan, Japanese Major League Baseball players have been rounding up support and relief funds for their home country.
Two pitchers from the Red Sox, Hideki Okajima and Junichi Tazawa, have produced an English language video thanking fans for their support and prayers and encouraging them to continue making donations to aid the relief efforts in Japan. A Japanese language video was also produced to send a message of concern back to their home country.
How can you help support relief efforts in Japan? You can make a donation at www.redsoxfoundation.org. 100% of your donation will go to Red Cross relief efforts in Japan.
Starting on January 14th of this year, as a lot of Little League players and parents know, new bat standards were put into effect for Little League. Although many parents and players already know about the rule changes, there are still a lot of questions about which bats are OK to use. Are some Little League bats being grandfathered into the new bat standards? Are any composite bats OK to use in Little League? Which bats are approved for Little League now? We’ve got the answers for you.
Little League has released official lists of all Little League approved bats. Basically, if the bat isn’t on one of these lists, it can’t be used. If you’re in the market for a new bat, be sure to check the lists. The last thing you’d want to have happen is to buy a brand new, high end bat, and then find out it can’t be used!
Are you getting revved up for this years Super Bowl? I know we are. Super Bowl XLV is practically in backyard. We could throw a rock and hit it! Well, not exactly, but still, it’s close, and the denizens of the Dallas/Ft. Worth area are starting to feel the anticipation.
Our local business are having a good old time with it, too. Some maybe a little too much, though. On a news broadcast a few days ago, I heard that some hotels who’s rates are normally around $50 to $60 per night are charging up to $700 per night. Can you believe that? It’s crazy! I would hate to be a traveler in Dallas on those days. There’s going to be a lot of people sleeping in their cars, don’t you think? Most of the businesses, though, aren’t being such spoiled sports.
At any rate, we are excited about having a piece of Super Bowl history happen in our neighborhood. You better believe we’ll be watching the Steelers and the Packers hit the field for this 2011 Super Bowl. Will you be watching, too?
